The Melrose High School football team improved to 2-0 with a 41-7 victory over Lincoln-Sudbury on the road last Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Red Raiders got three rushing touchdowns from Brendan Fennell and one from Matthew Hickey to lead the offensive attack. Sean Herbert tacked on a fumble recovery and touchdown to complete the scoring.
Fennell's touchdowns came from 42, 14 and 8 yards away. Hickey also added a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown. Zach Federico had five successful extra point tries to help account for the final score.
Fennell finished with 15 carries for 178 yards. Billy Pesce was credited with seven carries for 129 yards. Melrose got all of its 368 total offensive yards on the ground.
"It was a great team win for us," coach Tim Morris said.
Melrose will now travel to Wilmington to face the Wildcats Friday night, Sept. 27, looking for its third straight win.
