Mike Chaves had a double, a triple, two runs, and an RBI as Hudson Post 100 held on to defeat Newton 5-4 in a Zone 5 American Legion contest on Thursday night.

Connor Ojerholm had two doubles, a run, and an RBI for Post 100.

Hudson starting pitcher Matt Lowe worked five innings, allowing no earned runs while walking six and striking out two.

Hudson improved to 6-8 with the win.

Post 100 took a 3-0 lead after the first inning and added its other runs later in the game.

Post 100 allowed one run in the sixth inning and then three more runs in the seventh inning as Newton cut the lead to 5-4.

Post 100 reliever Aaron Cornwell got out of the jam for Hudson with runners on first and second base in the seventh.

Hudson plays at Medford in a Zone 5 game on Saturday at 5 p.m.

ASHLAND 14, WALTHAM 3: Dom Cavanaugh pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five as Ashland Post 77 (10-3) rallied past Waltham in a Zone 5 tilt.

Drew Rancatore went 1-for-2 with three runs and a double. JP Pessin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Jackson Hornung went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Brad Seymour went 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs.

“We got off kind of slow,” Ashland manager Derek Johnson said. “We went down 3-0 after the first. We had a long layoff. We played on June 25 and then didn’t play again until July 6 and the bats have been kind of quiet. It was good to see them go off today with 11 hits.”

Ashland hosts Lowell on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

FRANKLIN 13, NORFOLK 2: Colby Fitzgibbons and Scott Elliot both had three hits as Franklin Post 75 (8-6) rolled past Norfolk in a Zone 6 West game.

Colby Blakely, JJ Newcombe and JB Floris had two hits apiece for Post 75.

Corey Chiappone threw two innings in relief and got the win.

“Our guys were aggressive early, which is what we’ve been asking them to do,” Franklin manager Joe Macchi said. “They put good swings on the ball and got us going early to put some runs on the board.”

Franklin plays at Walpole on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

NORTHBOROUGH 10, WACHUSETT 0 (FORFEIT): Northborough Post 234 won its regular season finale when Wachusett forfeited Thursday night’s Zone 4 game.

It was the second straight night that Northborough won by forfeit after Main South forfeited its game on Wednesday. Post 234 closed the regular season with three straight wins.

Northborough finished the regular season with a 15-9 record and awaits its seeding and pairing for the Zone 4 playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.

FRANKLIN 14, FRAMINGHAM 1 (5 INN.): Mike Langmeyer pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight as Franklin (11-3) defeated Framingham (7-5) in a Central Mass. Senior Babe Ruth contest.

“There was good team defense and good base running today along with some timely hitting. It was a good team effort,” Franklin coach Mike Langmeyer said.
