Every time I hear Trump scream about socialism, my back goes up.

The Daily News verifies and reviews all letters to the editor we receive. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not those of the Daily News.

Every time I hear Trump scream about socialism, my back goes up.

We all know he lies and lies. Why aren’t people challenging him on this one word?

Socialism defined: “The term socialism refers to any system in which the production and distribution of goods and services is a shared responsibility of a group of people. Socialism is based upon economic and political theories that advocate for collectivism. In a state of socialism, there is no privately owned property.”

From Heather Cox Richardson, "Letters from an American": “A candidate talking about funding healthcare is not advocating socialism. A candidate talking about the government owning the hospitals and medical industries is advocating socialism. A candidate talking about regulating business? Not socialism. A candidate talking about nationalizing all industries? Socialism.

"Hospitals owned by government ... not advocated by Sanders

"Corporations owned by government - not advocated by Sanders.“

To use Sanders phrase “I’m sick and tired.” I’m “sick and tired of Trump misleading the American people that Sanders will bring us to socialism. There are differences between socialism and democratic socialism.

As Heather Cox Richardson explains in her Letters from an American, at reconstruction time, the rich elite tried to frighten people by saying that black men who only wanted a right to vote were taking us in the road to socialism. It was a lie then, promoted by the rich to keep control over the poor masses and its a lie now by Trump to keep control over the government.

I would love to see the media give the American people a lesson on the types of government instead of relentlessly showing Trump’s words as he scares Americans into thinking that the democrats are taking us down the road to government-owned corporations and hospitals. We need to get the facts into the heads of Americans. We need to nip Trump’s disinformation in the bud.

All Americans need to be able to get a fair shake and not be ruled by the few wealthy Republicans. What else would we call Trump’s massive tax cut to the very rich if not socialism for the very rich? And by the way, why didn’t everyone ask Trump how he was going to pay for that huge tax cut last year? He just did it. Where are the Republicans who used to scream about fiscal responsibility?

This is not an endorsement of any candidate. It is just a search for TRUTH.
