Last week, we witnessed the world’s largest climate protest. This week, global leaders met in NYC to respond.

Local government isn’t invited to global climate summits, but that doesn’t mean we - and you - don’t have a role to play in creating a clean, healthy future for our children and grandchildren.

Solving climate change will take a rapid shift toward renewable energy. In Natick, we can support that transition by signing up for the town’s new, all-green option for your electricity at natickma.gov/electricity. It’s a practical step we can all take to help slow climate change, and it’s doing right by future generations.

Opting up is 100 percent voluntary. No one has to do it. It does cost a little more — about $10 a month for the average Natick family. But it’s more than worth it to my family to say no to fossil fuel, and to up demand for renewables. We’re part of creating a market demand that will drive the innovation we need.

The program works by matching our electricity use to New England-based renewable projects that qualify for Class I Renewable Energy Certificates. It’s the equivalent of driving 6,135 miles less per year. And that’s just our one household!

I hope you’ll join me in opting up!
