WEYMOUTH — State Police said a motorist died after the car rolled over on Route 3 South at about 2:14 a.m. Saturday morning.

The one-car crash happened near exit 16 in Weymouth.

Police said a 2019 Dodge Charger overturned and caught on fire with the driver trapped inside. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was traveling on Route 3 south when it left the roadway to the left side and rolled over into the center median.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Police have not yet identified the driver.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk District attorney's office. Weymouth Fire Dept., state Department of Transportation and the medical examiner assisted.

State Police did not respond to multiple requests for additional information on Sunday.
