There is a new look to the Front Street Art Gallery after months of renovations.

“I’m happy with it,” said Janet Cornacchio, an artist and president of the Scituate Arts Association, which owns the condominium where the gallery is housed. “I think it has a whole new positive look.”

The idea behind the renovations was to “freshen things up a bit” – bring in more light and create a space where the displayed work could be better displayed and viewed, Cornacchio said.

“We removed the dropped ceiling, so now the ceiling is higher and there is a more spacious feel,” she said. “We made the whole place brighter with white paint – white reflects the light. We left some of the pipes exposed and unpainted because we thought it gave the place an industrial look. The interior lights are new, and there is a lot of natural light through the windows as well.”

The SAA worked with Bob Barrow of Cohasset, whom Cornacchio cannot say enough good things about.

“He really put in a lot of work,” she said. “There was a lot to it. We had to redo the sprinkler system, and redo all the wiring.”

Artist Ray Des Roches, a member of the Gallery, likes the new look.

“The renovations are nice,” he said. “It’s more open and you can get a better grasp of the work. I think it’s a nice upgrade.”

Cornacchio said other Gallery artists are also pleased.

“We really like these moveable panels we’ve placed in the center of the room,” she said. “They really draw your attention to the work being displayed. There is also room to move around the panels and admire the work on both sides. We wanted something that we could rearrange if we wanted to, but that was also sturdy. And they look good.”

The Front Street Art Gallery, a juried cooperative gallery of over 20 local artists and artisans, is located at 124 Front St., Scituate Harbor.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; and Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Gallery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
