Police say that when the man tried to stop Burton’s behavior, the suspect pulled out a knife and pointed it menacingly toward the woman.
MARLBOROUGH – Authorities say a local man hit another man with a bat on Wednesday night and threatened a woman with a knife before police arrested him.
Police arrested Jerome David Burton, 22, after the 11:43 p.m. incident at The Heights at Marlborough Apartments on Briarwood Lane, police spokesman Sgt. Zachary Attaway said on Thursday.
The victims called police when Burton showed up at their apartment drunk. Burton is friends with a woman who lives in the unit.
“He arrived intoxicated and (was) immediately belligerent,” said Attaway. “(The) male resident overheard yelling and attempted to intervene.”
When the man tried to stop Burton’s behavior, Burton pulled out a knife and pointed it menacingly toward the woman, Attaway said.
“(Burton) then picked up a bat inside the apartment and swung it at the male resident, striking him in the arm,” Attaway said.
The man suffered a minor injury, the sergeant said.
Burton then began to break items inside the apartment with the bat before the victims called police. It is not known why Burton went to the apartment and behaved the way he did, Attaway said.
Police arrested Burton, of 79 Framingham Road, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (baseball bat); assault with a dangerous weapon (knife); assault and battery; and vandalizing property.
During his arraignment Thursday in Marlborough District Court, Burton was ordered held on $500. He is due back in court on April 24.
