HINGHAM — Police are investigating after several headstones were allegedly vandalized at Hingham Cemetery.
On Wednesday afternoon, officers responded to a report of damaged headstones at the private cemetery on South Street. When they arrived, officers found nine stones that had "clearly been knocked over," according to a press release from the department.
The release said several of the damaged stones belong to veterans, but that officers do not believe any particular group or family was targeted.
The cemetery dates back to the 1670s.
