SWANSEA — Community Autism Resources has received a $2,031 grant from Bailey’s Team for Autism. These funds will support six individual scholarships for CAR's 2020 annual Parent Retreat.

Community Autism Resources requested a grant to provide financial assistance to families in need to attend our annual Parent Retreat for parents and guardians of individuals with ASD. This annual retreat is conducted in partnership with Dr. Barry Prizant and Dr. Elaine Meyer.

According to Community Autism Resources’ Executive Director Barbara Domingue: “We feel the Parent Retreat aligns with Bailey’s Team for Autism’s mission: ‘We strive to make a positive impact on individuals living with autism and their families with a focus on research, education and programming.’ It is well-known that parents and guardians of those with ASD often experience feelings of isolation, fatigue and increased levels of stress as a result of caring for their children. The unique design of our Annual Retreat gives parents/guardians the opportunity and education to adopt skills to address these issues. This is done by demonstrating that they are not alone, teaching additional coping methods and instilling a sense of belonging by being part a group that understands their common life experiences.”
