FALL RIVER -- Search and rescue crews from multiple cities and towns, the Coast Guard and State Police conducted an extensive search of the Taunton River and Mount Hope Bay on Saturday after a reported boating accident left one person missing.

Police and fire were called to the area just south of Borden Light Marina shortly after 5:30 p.m. to respond to reports of a boat accident, with multiple people in the water, according to police scanner reports.

The accident reportedly occurred near Spar Island in Mount Hope Bay, about 300 yards offshore.

According to reports, one man was pulled from the water south of the marina. He was reportedly given medical treatment for leg injuries and taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Rescue officials conducted a search for another boater, a man. The Coast Guard responded with at least one boat and a helicopter to assist with the search, along with a State Police helicopter, spotlights, the Fall River Harbormaster and search and rescue crews from the Fall River, Somerset, Tiverton and Portsmouth fire departments. The search continued for over two hours, past sunset, until local crews were called off at 7:45 p.m. State Police and Coast Guard crews were continuing the search.

The local search will resume at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
