A man and a woman have been charged with breaking into an abandoned building in Hingham by allegedly smashing a window.

Michael McLellan, 20, of 46 Uriahs Drive, Duxbury, and Hailey Johnson, 19, of Mechanic Falls, Maine, were arrested Sept. 23 and charged with breaking and entering for misdemeanor, destruction of property under $1,200 and trespassing.

Shortly after 1 p.m. police were called to 90 Industrial Park Road, the old South Shore Collaborative building. Property management saw a man in jeans and a white T-shirt and a woman in a black dress on the property.

When officers arrived they found a window smashed with a rock to make a hole "large enough for a person to enter the building," the report stated.

Then a man and a woman who fit the description given came out of the building through the side door, police said.

According to the report, McLellan said that he "liked abandoned buildings" and was told of the location by a friend. He claimed he did not see the no trespassing signs on the property.

McLellan said he and Johnson entered the building through the broken window and that he had entered the building before in the same way.
