Roughly a year after the former Planet Fitness location in Stoughton moved to Brockton, executives from the nationwide gym franchise announced that a new Stoughton gym will open next to Price Rite (638 Washington St.) in November.

STOUGHTON — Planet Fitness is returning to Stoughton.

Executives for the nationwide gym franchise announced plans to open a new Planet Fitness location on Route 138 toward the end of November. The new gym will be located two miles away from the previous location that closed last year after moving to Brockton.

"Planet Fitness definitely sees a growing need throughout the region for affordable, quality gyms that also provide a 'Judgment-Free' atmosphere for those of all fitness levels and backgrounds," said Planet Fitness franchisee Brian Kablik. "We are happy to once again have a location in Stoughton to fulfill this need for the community."

The new location will occupy the old Rite Aid space in the Stoughton Town Center plaza (638 Washington St.) next to Price Rite, with a grand opening to be announced at a later date. The 16,476-square-foot space will offer 85 cardio machines, strength and free-weight equipment and a private training area equipped with PF SYNRGY 360 Functional Training System including TRX equipment and kettlebells.

Like other Planet Fitness locations, the Stoughton gym will offer free fitness training by a certified instructor, free pizza on the first Monday of every month and free bagels on the second Tuesday of every month, with the cost of membership. The location will also offer perks for Black Card members, including the Black Card Spa with salon-grade tanning booths, HydroMassage loungers and massage chairs.

Hours for the Stoughton location will be Monday to Thursday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Stoughton lost its prior Planet Fitness location, located in the Planet Fitness Plaza on Route 138 (1778 Washington St.), when the gym moved two miles down the road to the Westgate Mall in Brockton in 2018. The new "state of the art" gym opened that September, which gym executives said provided better access to gym-goers and allowed them to expand the size of the facility by almost 50 percent. It was the second Planet Fitness location to open in Brockton, following the first location (715 Crescent St.) that opened in 2017.

Planet Fitness executives also announced a pre-sale membership opportunity for the new location where new members can join with no commitment for $1 down and $10 a month until Oct. 16. Those interested can sign up online or at a pre-sale trailer located outside the Stoughton site from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.
