QUINCY — A 36-year Quincy man was in critical condition Thursday evening after being hit by a van while crossing Southern Artery on Thursday morning, police said.

The pedestrian, who was at one point unconscious, was taken to Boston Medical Center, police said. The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Southern Artery, also known as Route 3A, between Brackett Street and McGrath Highway. The stretch of road was briefly closed in both directions.

The driver of the van stayed on scene after the crash. Police said no charges had been filed as of Thursday evening and the investigation remained open.
