Author Tom Ryan will share stories of his life-changing hikes with Atticus M. Finch, Emily B. Hawthorne and Samwise A. Passaconaway at the Friends of the Blue Hills' 40th anniversary annual celebration from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Canton Town Club, 300 Bailey St., Canton.

The evening also will include hors d’oeuvres, silent auction and the presentation of the organization’s 40th Anniversary Legacy Partner Awards and the 2019 Community Partner Award. The 40th Anniversary Legacy Partner honorees are Bob Flagg, of Randolph; Caleb Blankenship, of Milton; Norman Smith, director of the Blue Hills Trailside Museum in Milton; and the REI Co-op. This year’s Community Partner honoree is Steve Cobble, of Quincy.

Proceeds support the organization’s trail maintenance program and free events in the Blue Hills Reservation.
