SHREWSBURY — The Shrewsbury Public Library Foundation will host a free Open Rehearsal performance by the Young@Heart Chorus at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at Oak Middle School, 45 Oak St.

The Young@Heart chorus will learn and rehearse new songs, under the direction of its longtime director Bob Cilman. The chorus, which marks its 37th anniversary this year, is comprised of people who range in age from 73 to 89.

The group has performed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” as well as stages all over the world.

The program is part of a communitywide project, “Dancing around the Hard Topics,” a reading, viewing and discussion program. While focused on the book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End” by Dr. Atul Gawande, the project also looks at the many ways people embrace life at all ages.
