A homeless man allegedly broke into a boat at Hingham Shipyard Marina and was living in it, police said.
Stephen Rockett, 51, of 40 Cynthia Circle, Weymouth was arrested Sept. 17 and charged with breaking and entering a boat in the daytime for felony and defacing property.
Police said at 1:30 p.m. an employee from Lawson Yachts said someone had broken into the cabin of a boat named "Christine" and appeared to be living there.
The cabin was covered in empty containers of beer, wine, food and cigarette butts. There was clothing and bedding in the mattress area, and trash and human feces on the deck, down the ladder and on the ground.
The reporting party, from Hingham Shipyard Marina, said he believed there was about $2,000 worth of damage to the boat.
The owner of the boat said no one had permission to be on his boat.
Around three hours later police found the man back in the boat. Police asked him if he knew the owner of the boat and he said "I have no clue, I was hoping they were in Florida."
