The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants announced that Christopher Burns of Billerica was awarded the Liberty Mutual Group’s Finance Inclusion Committee Scholarship from the MSCPA’s Educational Foundation.

Burns, a student at UMass Lowell, was one of 52 students selected to receive a scholarship from the Educational Foundation’s 2019 Scholarship Program. The students were presented with their awards at the MSCPA Believers and Achievers Recognition Reception on May 22 at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy.

“The Society is proud to support young people who will be the future of the CPA profession,” said Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. “Becoming a CPA opens up different opportunities in a variety of fields, and we couldn’t be happier to support students along their journey.”

The mission of the MSCPA’s Educational Foundation is to inspire and support the next generation of CPAs in Massachusetts. MSCPA scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate accounting students who are attending a college or university in Massachusetts or attending a college or university out-of-state with a permanent residence in Massachusetts. Scholarship funds are issued directly to the students and can be used for tuition, books, interviewing expenses or other needs.
