A pre-celebration of the Fourth of July featuring the Satuit Band will be held at 7 p.m. June 28 on the front lawn of the Rockland Memorial Library, 20 Belmont St.
Members of the Rockland community are invited to bring and lawn chairs and snacks to listen to the 90 minute performance.
Based in Scituate, the Satuit Band has been welcoming South Shore musicians since 1933. Membership includes high school and college students, dedicated amateurs as well as seasoned professionals. As part of the band’s commitment to the continued education of the student members of the band, thousands of dollars have been awarded in scholarships.
The band is under the direction of Charles Shaffer, who holds degrees in music education from Florida State University and was a music teacher for 25 years at Braintree High School. The performance will include music from Leroy Anderson, Henry Mancini, Neil Diamond, the Beatles and others.
The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Rockland Memorial Library and funded by a grant from the Rockland Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
