Mystery Book Club: 1-2 p.m. June 13. Free; no registration required. For this Mystery Book Club book, we’re reading and discussing “The Last Child” by John Hart. Copies are available for check out at the main circulation desk.
Eco-Centric Book Club: 7-8 p.m. June 13. Free; no registration required. This is a brand new book club, led by Medfielder and Zero-Waste Enthusiast, Julie Welsch! Memoir Biography Book Club: 4-5 p.m. June 14. Free; no registration required. Are you looking for a fun and pleasant way to spend an hour on a Friday afternoon? If so, please join our friendly spirited group as we gather to discuss this month’s pick Life from Scratch by Sasha Martin.
Dungeons & Dragons Club: 3-6 p.m. June 14 and 28. Free; registration required. Join our ongoing group of D&D-ers. Don’t know how to play? Come learn! All levels welcome. Meets bi-weekly on Fridays of each month. Led by Dungeon Master Jay. Open to grades 6 and up. Please register so we know how much snacks to buy.
Barn Babies: 2-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-3 p.m. June 18. Free; registration required. During this hand-on program, children will be able to interact with a variety of animals including a diapered goat, a little pot-bellied pig, baby bunnies, chicks or ducks, puppies, and kittens! We’ll be having two sessions, 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm, so register for the one that fits your schedule best. Ages 2 & up with an adult. Please register as space is limited. Registration begins June 11.
Mike Shalin - Author Visit: 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 18. Free; no registration required. Mike Shalin is a veteran of 35 years in sports journalism. He started with the wire services in New York in the 70s, moved to the New York Post from 1980-82 and then spent 22 years at the Boston Herald, covering the Red Sox for 12 years and then Boston College football and basketball before leaving the newspaper in 2005. He is now a freelancer in the Boston area, with varied duties including work as an official scorer at Fenway Park. Shalin, a Baseball Hall of Fame voter since 1989, co-authored the book Out By A Step, The 100 Best Players Not in the Baseball Hall of Fame and is the author of the 2011 release Donnie Baseball: The Definitive Biography of Don Mattingly. Mike will be joining us at the library to talk about his new book, “The Hometown Team” and to chat with us about the Red Sox! Glass Etching-Fourth of July: 10:30 a.m.-noon June 20. Free; registration required. Glass Etching is our most popular adult workshop here at the library, so in order to expand the class size, we’re changing the format. Every class will have it’s own theme, so to celebrate the Fourth of July, this month we’ll be making Independence Day glasses! Participants will get to choose from a variety of images and phrases to etch onto a piece of glassware of their choosing. Take home a glass for yourself or as a host/ess gift for whomever is having you over to watch fireworks. Participants in this workshop must be 18 years of age or older. Pop Up Art School — Glowing Constellation Painting: 6-8 p.m. June 20. Free; registration required. A canvas painting experience that’ll leave your head in the stars! Learn about Aboriginal Constellation art in celebration of the summer library reading theme: A Universe of Stories. You’ll paint a galactic masterpiece that has real light-up stars! Use our templates to make your astrological sign or light up your own pattern. All materials will be provided including a battery operated strand of lights. Grades 6-12. Please register as space is limited.
Summer Solstice Party & Storytime: 4:30-5:30 p.m. June 21. Free; no registration required. Drop in to celebrate the longest day of the year with activities, crafts, and stories. Ages 4 & up with an adult.
Summer Reading Kick-off & Concert: 11 a.m.-1:45 p.m. June 22. Free; no registration required. Kick off your summer with outdoor activities, a cold treat, and a chance to feel the summer spirit with the Stefilia’s Little Stones concert at 1:00 pm in Gazebo Park. Come by the Children’s Room any time and sign up for the Summer Reading Program. We’ll have art and Lego building going on in the Activity Room from 11-1:00 pm as well. All ages welcome. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Dailey Room and outdoor activities will be canceled.
Summer Kickoff With Laser Tag and Gaming!: 6-8 p.m. June 25. Free; no registration required. Grades sixth through 12th! Play laser tag, Fortnite, and more OUTSIDE the Library on the green to celebrate the beginning of summer! Ice cold snacks will also be provided.
Snail Mail Letter Writing Session *For Adults: 6-8 p.m. June 25. Free; no registration required. Remember the joy of getting a letter in the mail? You know, the real mail? Drop by the library to drop someone a line and make their day! We’ll have stationery, pens, envelopes and some fun collage materials if you want to make a personalized postcard. We’ll even put a stamp on your correspondence and post it for you! All you need to bring is your address book. (If you no longer have an address book, bring your phone so you can text your letter’s recipient and ask for their mailing address!). Registration is not required, but sign up if you’d like an email reminder about this event.
Crafts & Comraderie Knit & Crochet Group: 6:30-8 p.m. June 25. Free; no registration required. Drop in with your yarn to craft amongst friends. All skill levels welcome! No registration is necessary--just show up--but if you’d like an email reminder about this event, please feel free to register.
3D Pen Workshop: 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 27. Free; registration required. Come in to learn the basics of how to use a 3D Pen! These devices, used in art and tech industries, use melted, plastic filament as “ink” which allows you to draw and assemble flat shapes, or to “draw in the air.” No drawing experience necessary! Please register as space is extremely limited. Patrons 16 years of age and older are welcome.
Friends 1/2 Price Bookstore Sale: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 29. Bargain prices; no registration required. Come in anytime the library is open and check out the great selection of books, DVDs, CDs and more. On the last Saturday of the month everything is 1/2 price!
Declaration of Independence: noon-12:30 p.m. June 29. Free; no registration required. Gather on the brick walkway and travel back in time. Mike Paige will do a reading of the Declaration of Independence, just like it was first done in Philadelphia in 1774. All ages welcome.
Local Author Book Signing!: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 29. Free; no registration required. Medfielder, Thomas Robbins, will be here with copies of his first published novel, Guardians of Tomorrow. Music Makers: 10:30-11 a.m. and 11:05-11:35 a.m. July 1. Free; registration required. Enhance your little one’s love of music during this 30-minute bonding time. Music teacher, Bethany Gavin, will lead the way with songs, dance and movement games. Designed for ages 0 - 5 with a caregiver. Please register as space is limited.
