Center Happenings

Summer Preview Party: 10 a.m. June 20. Coffee and pastry at 10 a.m.; entertainment at 11 a.m. is accordionist Susan McLeod, “Orchestra of One.” Lunch is a choice of a cranberry chicken salad plate or a tuna salad plate. Lyrical Love Songs: 10:30 a.m. June 19. Sharon resident Martin Agulnek will offer a presentation of the music and lyrics authored by such lyricists and composers as Irving Berlin, the Gershwins, Cole Porter, Dorothy Fields, Jerome Kern, Yip Harbrg and Harold Arlen. He will provide a short biography and background of each composer, a review of the lyrics and musical renditions of each by renowned artists. Free; RSVP for seating suggested. “New Yorker” Discussion Group: 10:30 a.m. June 25. Martin Agulnek will facilitate the group as it discusses “Trump TV.” Attendees read and discuss a recent article on the association between President Trump and Fox News. Growing Older: Our Bodies Ourselves: 1 p.m. June 25. Author Joan Ditzion will be at the Adult Center to discuss how today’s women 60 and older have new needs, roles, opportunities and challenges. This workshop will explore context of aging and aspects that affect women’s health, social and emotional well-being. There will be time for questions and to share experiences. Japan and Its Prints in the Floating World: 3 p.m. June 27. Japanese print enthusiast Tom Silver will be at the Adult Center to provide a window into Japan’s popular culture of the 17th to mid-19th centuries as documented by “Ukiyo-e” – Pictures of the Floating World. RMV Near Me: 10-11:30 a.m., Fridays. The Adult Center has a volunteer available to assist with the following: registration renewals, change of address, duplicate license or registration, how to report a lost or stolen disability placard and how to request a replacement, and license renewals for licensed drivers younger than 75. The volunteer can also assist with paperwork for the REAL ID. Must have a valid checking account or credit card to process any transaction; no cash accepted. No appointment necessary. The Adult Center is not a full-service registry—no pictures, eye exams, etc. available.
