Loud noises, large police presence at the school will be part of active shooter drills.
Submitted by the Melrose Police Department.
Chief Michael L. Lyle announces that the Melrose Police Department will participate in an active shooter training drill throughout next week. The training will take place inside the Horace Mann School. Residents in the area may hear loud noises and bangs and see a number of police units in the area. Residents should know that this is only a training drill and that there is no danger. Only blank/training rounds and noise simulators will be used during the training.
The training scenario is meant to better prepare the Melrose Police Department for the unlikely yet extremely dangerous occurrence of an active shooter in the city. Training will run Monday, June 17 through Thursday, June 20
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, inside the Horace Mann School, 40 Damon Ave.
