Bridgewater Credit Union, a division of Merrimack Valley Credit Union, recently awarded five local high school and college students with a total of $5,000 in scholarships.

Each recipient was given $1,000.

“Our scholarship program is one of the many ways that we give back to those in our community,” said John Howard, president and CEO of Merrimack Valley Credit Union. “We selected five local students who are pursuing college to advance their education and to better themselves and their communities. Upon graduation, we hope they choose to put down roots on the South Shore to help the community grow and flourish.”

BCU received more than 150 applications from students across the South Shore. Students were scored on their academic performance, school and community involvement and work experience.
