Selectmen meetings

The Selectmen will meet jointly with the Traffic Advisory Committee, Planning Board and Belmont High School Building Committee at 6 p.m. on May 21 at the Beech Street Center to discuss and decide on the best solution for Belmont regarding site design and traffic.

On May 22, 7 p.m. there is a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Selectmen in the Selectmen meeting room at Town Hall. Agenda items include a vote on the supplemental requests for FY'19, a formal review of Town Administrator Patrice Garvin, discussion of the Annual Town Meeting Segment B Warrant, a reort from the Public Works and Police building committee.

Design update with summary of building security, zero net energy and technology on Thursday, June 7, 7:30 a.m. at the Homer Municipal Building, third floor gallery.

Schematic design review with construction schedule, phasing and site logistics on Tuesday, June 19, 7 p.m., Chenery Middle School community room. 

Project costs update and schematic design presentation on Thursday, June 28, 7 p.m., Chenery Middle School community room.

Warrant briefing for Town Meeting

The League of Women Voters Belmont warrant briefing for Town Meeting will take place Monday, May 21, 7:30 p.m. at the Beech Street Center. Town officials and department heads will present and provide information on the financial warrant articles to be voted on for Town Meeting, segment B, which begins May 30.

Light Board

The Belmont Light Board is meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 in the selectmen meeting room at Town Hall. This will be the first meeting with newly hired General Manager Christopher Roy.

Belmont Special Education Parent Advisory Council

There will be an "Basic rights" information session, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. on May 23 at the Daniel Butler Elementary School cafeteria, 90 White St., Belmont. Entrance to the cafeteria is on the side of the building by the parking lot. This workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Special Education Law and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). It is designed to help parents learn how to be effective partners with their child's school to decide the child's eligibility for special education and to plan, make decisions and monitor their child's progress in school.

Improvement plans for Public Works and Police facilities

The Public Works and Police Department Building Committee will hold a public information session on Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at the Beech Street Center.  Plans for the proposed additions and renovations to both facilities will be presented including concept designs and estimated costs.  This is an opportunity for citizens and Town Meeting members to gather information about the project prior to the June session of Town Meeting where money for construction on both facilities will be requested.

Special Town Meeting, tentative dates

Tentative dates of Nov. 13 and 14 have been set for a Special Town Meeting to vote on zoning regulations for marijuana retailers in Belmont and to vote on the debt exclusion for the Belmont High School project.
