Fall Programs

Fall Story Hour begins Monday, Sept. 17 and the library is holding sign-ups now until Sept. 29. Stop by the library or call to sign up today at 508-674-9609. Every Monday we will have Preschool story hour from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Join us as we celebrate the Fall Season in all its glory with fall stories, harvest crafts and ending with Halloween. This story hour is for 3-5 year-olds (but little brothers and sisters can come too).

Fall story hour sessions will last through Halloween and will conclude with our annual stroll through the stacks, a costume contest and Halloween party. Please remember that all children who attend Story Hour must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or caregiver.

Lego Club. Join the Imagineers of Swansea every Monday afternoon from 3:30-5 p.m. Lego Club is for children of all ages. Use your imagination to build, create and design all sorts of wondrous things. Play with our collection of Legos in the Junior Room.

Every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Ms. Christine will host TinyTime, story hour for the little folks ages 0-3. Caregivers and babies will learn stories, songs, lap games, bounces, and rhymes plus share a couple of books each week. It is never too soon to build your child's appreciation for books & reading. The Write Club. Join the Swansea Public Library Young Writers club, a weekly writing club for writers ages 8-12. Learn a variety of writing formats, write your own stories, poems, fairy tales and short fiction. Share stories, and write as a group. Writing is fun when you share it with others! We meet every Tuesday from 4-5 PM in the Junior Room at the Library.

Die Cut Day/Tissue Box Craft. Calling all crafters, scrapbookers and card makers! Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 12-2 p.m.for an afternoon of die cutting with master card maker Jean Codega. Jean will bring her Sizzix and Cuttlebug machines. Jean will also show how to make a decorative pocket tissue holder. Bring your own card stock and make die cuts using dies from Jean’s vast collection.

September is Library Card sign-up month. If you do not have a library card, stop by the circulation desk at the Swansea Free Public Library and sign up today. It’s the smartest card you will ever have.

The Library will once again be hosting the eighth annual “Make it Snappy” Photo Contest. Submit a picture of yourself with your library card anywhere and anyway you like and enter it today. Check for rules at www.swansealibrary.org Prizes will be awarded.

Simply Done, the Swansea Recipe/Coupon club is looking for new members. Meetings are held each Monday in the Reference Room from 2:00-3:30 p.m.. Members will swap recipes, cut coupons, find ways to save money, share cookbooks and cooking ideas, talk about food and bring in samples.

Simply Done and the Friends of the Swansea Public Library will hold their Tenth Annual Apple Pie Contest on Wednesday September 26th at 6:30 PM. Local bakers are encouraged to bake their best homemade apple pies and drop them off at the library, no later than 6:00 PM on Wednesday September 26th. You must be registered to enter and please, include a copy of your recipe. Applications and rules are now available at the library and on the website. Prizes will be awarded for the top three pies. Register today.

Do you love to read? Fall is the time to think about joining one of our existing book clubs or starting a new one. Stop by the library to learn more about Book Clubs. We are looking for new members for the YA for Grown-ups Book Club, the Non-Fiction Book Club: “Nothing but the Truth” as well as the Better Living Book Club. Nothing but the Truth and the Better Living Book Club are currently online book clubs through GoodReads. Don’t want to come out at night? Try the Brown Bag Book Club which will be held the 3rd Friday of each month from 12-1:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). If you enjoy reading all genres, bring your lunch and eat, read and talk. All are Welcome! Fall is a great time to get outdoors and what better way to stay healthy and discuss current reads than the Walk and Talk book club. Members meet each Wednesday at 9 AM (weather permitting) for a walk on historic Main Street. Walk to the Swansea dam and beyond and talk about books you have read and share ideas about new books.

Partners Village Store and Kitchen, 865 Main Road, Westport announces its Fall Children's Reading Circle will run through Dec. 6. Join Partners every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for an hour of stories and fun activities geared toward preschool children. Miss Joan has some wonderful stories planned and will lead a theme based arts and crafts activity after the story. Snack will also be provided. A guardian must accompany the child. This is a free event and registration is not required.
