The Building Department has yet to confirm suspicions of an illegal dwelling at a Salem End Road home that was damaged in a fire last week because they cannot contact the owner.
Inspectional Services Director Mike Foley said the owner is in Boca Raton, Fla., and they have left messages for him, but he has not returned calls.
"We've got to wait to see what he has to say," Foley said.
Foley did not identify the owner, but town records show Reginald Barrios owns 185 Salem End Road.
Last Thursday, the fire department was called to a kitchen fire at 185 Salem End Road.
After the fire, building inspectors discovered two kitchens and two bathrooms in the single-family, split-level home. There were also two satellite dishes on the roof.
Foley said after the fire they suspected the house had been split into two apartments, which is not allowed.
No one was injured in the fire, which caused an estimated $150,000 worth of damage.
