William M. Evans of Rockland, formerly of Norwell, died May 19, 2007, at Quincy Medical Center following a long illness.

Mr. Evans had been employed as a building manager at 70 Federal St. in Boston, for more than 20 years. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He had been a Norwell resident for 30 years.

His favorite pastime was sailing with his family. He met his wife Margaret when they volunteered for a year at the Navaho Indian Reservation at St. Michael’s Indian School in Arizona.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Margaret C. (Covell) Evans; four sons, William Evans and his wife Linda of Marshfield, Christopher Evans and his wife Eloise of Rockland, Geoffrey Evans and his fiancée Sharon Aguiar of Plymouth and Andrew Evans and his wife Kimberly of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; two brothers, Thomas Evans and David Evans, both of Connecticut; two sisters, Marylou Gorman of Maine and Dorothy Evans of Marshfield; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held from Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, Scituate, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate.
