The Bourne High School boys’ lacrosse team hopes that an upset is in the cards today.

The 14th seeded Canalmen, who finished the season at 9-11, will travel to Braintree to take on No. 5 seed Archbishop Williams in Division 3 play.
“When our guys play the way they are capable of, they are an outstanding team,” says boys’ head coach Tom Bushy. “It would definitely be a big upset, but I know they can do it.”
The Canalmen take on Archbishop Williams at 5:30 tonight, playing at the Thayer Academy field. While Bushy says the season has been “up and down,” his senior contingent in focused on advancing.
“We’ve been great at times and at other times, we have not played to our potential,” says the second-year head coach. “We had several games that were lost by a point or two and you hate to let those get away form you.
“I’ve seen a lot of discipline lately, especially on the seniors’ faces,” the coach adds. “I hope the underclassmen can feed off that energy and help to win a few more for the seniors.”
Senior tri-captains Ryan Linn, Justin Dube and Jeremy Hunt are part of that senior crew. Linn, a midfielder, is a “great leader, on and off the field,” says Bushy, while Dube brings size and speed to his role on defense.
Hunt, the tam’s MVP last season, is a tested goalie who likes the big games. “He has kept us in a lot of games,” says Bushy. “We’ll need him to be solid for us again today.”
After losing close games to Barnstable and Plymouth, both Division 1 teams, Bushy says his team plays to the level of their opponent, making tonight’s match-up a great situation for the Bourne team.
“They have the ability. They lose games when they have a lack of focus,” says the coach. “It will be to our advantage to be the underdog.”
On Tuesday, the Bourne girls’ team lost to No. 7 Hopkinton, 12-4, ending its season at 11-7-1.
Kaitlyn McCabe, Amanda Hester, Sam Partington and Liz McRoberts scored for the Canalmen.
The Bourne girls' won their first Maritime League title this season, and placed Jade Antonangeli, McCabe, Hester and goalie Colleen Grant on the league all-star squad. Antonageli and McCabe were 1-2 in scoring in the league.
