Last weekend, five Sailfish Swim Team swimmers competed at the New England Swimming 2018 11-14 Age Group Championships at Boston University.

Paige Bleckley, Charlotte (Charlie) Hoover and Megan Nelson of Scituate; with Holiday Host of Cohasset and Kelsey Donegan of Hingham represented the Saiflish at the championship meet in both the trials and finals sessions.

The girls had to qualify by beating New England cut times to swim in the morning trials session and then had to be in the top 20 swimmers in order to compete again in the evening finals sessions. This is the first time in Sailfish history that 11-14 year old swimmers made it back for finals.

Bleckley qualified for the meet in the 50 yard and 100 free, 50, 100 and 200 back. She swam the 100 back a second time at finals and dropped .66 seconds to make a personal best time of 1:05.81 and ended up in 17th place. Bleckley’s other personal-best times were swum in the 50 back, and 200 back.

Hoover swam in the 50 and 100 breast and 50 fly and made it back to finals in the 50 fly with a best time of 29.43, she placed 20th overall. Hoover recorded best times in all three events she competed.

Nelson competed in the 100 and 200 butterfly making personal-best times in both swims and dropped almost 6.5 seconds in the 200 fly.

Host competed in the 50 and 100 back and came close to her personal-best times.

The 11-12 year old girls qualified to swim the 400 medley relay on the last finals session of the meet and came in two seconds faster than their seed time. Holiday led off with a 1:08.30 100 back, Hoover went second with her 1:18.96 100 breast, Bleckley swam next going a personal best of1:08.33 in 100 fly and Donegan anchored the relay with a personal best of 1:04.19 in the 100 free.

The swimmers will compete this coming weekend at the University of Rhode Island in the 2018 New England Silvers Championship which culminated the short-course season. The Sailfish Swim Team has 22 swimmers qualified for this meet.

Team practices will resume April 2 for the long course season with our sights on the Summer Bay State Games, the Junior Olympics, NE LCM Age Groups and USA Eastern Zones.
