Marshfield’s Nick Fontana and Charlie Argyle are thriving playing men’s soccer at Springfield College.
As a freshman last year, Argyle joined Fontana on the team and they helped the Pride win its first NEWMAC conference title since 2011.
This season, the former Marshfield High boys soccer captains, have both been ever present in the team helping the team earn its first NEWMAC Men's Soccer Regular Season title since 1999.
With a season record of 14-1-2, Springfield recorded 12 shutouts while scoring 43 goals.
The Pride defeated Endicott in the first round of this year’s Division 3 NCAA Tournament before falling to Amherst in the second round on penalty kicks. The win was the first ever in the tournament for Springfield.
Argyle is a sophomore midfielder for Springfield and has started five games while netting two goals during his two seasons on the team.
Fontana, a junior forward, started three games this season while scoring three goals and dishing out two assists.
In 2016, Springfield lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to the eventual national champions – Tufts.
