KINGSTON - The Silver Lake boys soccer team clinched a berth in the upcoming state tournament last week with wins over Hingham and then North Quincy.
Although played just 48 hours apart, the two games could not have been any more different for the Lakers (10-2 overall, 8-1 in Patriot League).
Wednesday's game at Hingham was a battle between two of the best teams in the Keenan Division. Silver Lake's Patrick McMahon scored 10 minutes into the game and goaltender Justin Keating took it from there, stopping all the Harbormen shots to earn the key shutout win.
Friday's game with North Quincy had no drama to it whatsoever. It was settled early as Silver Lake poured home seven goals in the first half alone on the way to a 9-1 win over the Red Raiders.
Silver Lake was back in action Wednesday at Hanover. They'll host Whitman-Hanson under the lights Saturday night and have a huge game against Duxbury Tuesday at 5 p.m. as they seek to avenge their lone league so far this season.
