The Woburn High girls soccer team scored Thursday’s evening’s lone goal in the 52nd-minute, ultimately handing Belmont its first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat at WHS.
"We had some great scoring chances," said Marauder coach Paul Graham. "In the last 10 minutes we had three scrambles in front of the Woburn net but couldn’t put it in. To their credit, Woburn’s keeper made several incredible saves. We took some high shots and I don’t know how she got her hands on them."
Belmont is currently 10-1 with five games left to play.
"Despite the loss, overall, the team played well," said Graham. "The girls put on a passing clinic in the first half, we just couldn’t finish."
Graham credited Ella Gagnon and Eliza Filler with playing at high levels in this contest.
The Marauders will host Woburn Saturday at 5 p.m. in what will be a continuation game, previously called because of inclement weather. Belmont will also host Lexington Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
