MARIA'S STORY

Maria, 33, her five children and their father moved to Quincy as refugees from another country. They used furniture banks to furnish their home. After school, the children would gather around the dining room table to do homework.

In early June, the family's apartment building was infested with mice and they had to temporarily relocate and remove all their furnishings. They had no place to store their dining room table and chairs except for a  porch outside. A heavy rain destroyed the furniture and left it unusable.

The family, who receive some services from Quincy Community Action Programs, now eats and does school work on the floor.

Maria would like her children to be able to focus on their eduction rather than being distracted by where to do their homework.

WHAT THE FAMILY NEEDS

Maria believes that a dining room table is essential for a family to spend time together. Lend a Hand donations would help the family replace the dining room table and chairs so the children have a place to eat and do homework.

Maria's children have been doing their homework and eating meals on the floor because their dining room furniture was destroyed.
