Community Action Inc. is offering up to three Goldman Memorial Scholarships in 2018, each in the amount of $1,000, to residents who meet the scholarship criteria. The scholarships will be offered to one high school graduate or graduating senior, one HiSET recipient and one post-secondary student.

The scholarships are named after Gerald Goldman, the former executive director of CAI, who passed away in 1995. Each year Community Action presents three scholarships in honor of his name. Students from Haverhill, Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, Groveland, Georgetown, Boxford, Rowley, Newbury, West Newbury and Merrimac are eligible to apply. Applicants must supply proof of their enrollment in a full-time college program or demonstrate in writing their acceptance in a college program. HiSET applicants must have received a HiSET diploma and show acceptance into a college program. They must also provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor. Applicants must also complete a 200-500 word essay on how their post-secondary education experience will help them enhance the principles of Gerald Goldman in their own lives and how continuing education will help them make a difference in their communities. The final selection of the scholarship winner will be decided by Jerry Goldman’s children.

Applications are available online at http://communityactioninc.org and at CAI’s offices at 3 Washington Square, Haverhill. Completed applications are due by April 16.
