WAREHAM – A proposal for a Tesla charging station in Wareham Crossing near the Red Robin Restaurant got thumbs up from the Zoning Board of Appeals Wednesday night.
The charging station for the electric car brand will be set up on a regular parking spot with equipment that will be housed within a brown trex enclosure nearby, said Trevor Smith of Tesla’s Boston office.
“If you are coming into Wareham Crossing and heading to Red Robin it’s in the far perimeter,” said Smith.
Board of Selectmen member Alan Slavin said he would like to see the charging station in that location as it’s likely to encourage people to shop while they are waiting for their Tesla to charge. Smith said the average charge-up time for the car is 37 minutes.
“I think this is really good for the town,” said Slavin. “People can spend money while they are waiting for their car to charge.”
