The East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated $2,500 to the Cambridge Community Center, a Cambridge-based nonprofit organization that has served the city’s Coast neighborhood for nearly 90 years.

The Cambridge Community Center provides services for nearby residents of all ages, including an after-school program, teen workforce development and summer camps.

Gilda M. Nogueira, East Cambridge Savings Bank’s president and chief executive officer, remarked that the Cambridge Community Foundation works to provide services that the bank actively aims to support.

“The East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation supports organizations that address issues affecting children and families, senior citizens, education and health and wellness. The Cambridge Community Center has a longstanding commitment to addressing these issues by providing programs and services that improve the lives of Cambridge residents,” said Nogueira. “Their innovative after-school and summer programs have a particularly positive impact on local children and families as the center provides healthy meals, small classes and a safe and nurturing environment.”

The Cambridge Community Center’s executive director, Darrin Korte, reflected on the important role the business community plays in supporting local nonprofits. “We appreciate the continued support of East Cambridge Savings Bank,” he said. “Donors from the Cambridge business community are more than just contributors. They are our partners, and their support enables us to provide crucial community-based programming, including our monthly Coast Kitchen and the Cambridge Winter Farmers Market.”

The Center’s Coast Kitchen provides a free community meal on the third Friday of the month, and the Winter Farmers Market operates every Saturday from January to April. The farmers market enables nearby residents to have access to nutritious food and accepts the commonwealth’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, which the center matches. On an average day, 250 to 300 people utilize the programs and services available at the center.
