The Plymouth Area Interfaith Clergy Association is sponsoring events in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15. The activities begin at 9:15 a.m. with a gathering and a service project sponsored by the South Shore Community Action Council at The Spire Center for Performing Arts, 25 1/2 Court St. At 9:45 a.m., there will be a rally on the town green featuring Keith Jackson of the Messiah Baptist Church, who will offer a rendition of King’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, and the Rev. Ed Hardy, retired pastor of the First Parish UU Church in Plymouth. At 11 a.m., the day will conclude with a worship service at the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 6 Sever St.

The Plymouth Department of Planning and Development and the Plymouth Center Village Steering Committee will host an open house to begin community conversation about the future of the Plymouth Center-waterfront area from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at Memorial Hall, 83 Court St. The town wishes to get residents' input for use in formulating the downtown and waterfront master plan. Plymouth Center for the Arts will host its Member’s Art Show, “Op-por-tu-ni-ty,” from Jan. 18 to March 4 at 11 North St., with an opening reception scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 18. Awards will be presented at 6:15 p.m. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served while guests enjoy music. This event is open to the public with free admission.
