UXBRIDGE - A Rhode Island man involved in a crash Tuesday morning on Rte. 146 has died of his injuries.
Richard Unwin, 41, of Woonsocket died Wednesday evening at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester, according to Trooper Paul Sullivan, a state police spokesman.
Unwin suffered extensive injuries when his pickup truck veered off the northbound side of the highway and hit a tree. The crash occurred around 9 a.m. Monday, north of Exit 2.
Asher Gaeta, a family friend, said Unwin died Wednesday after being removed from life support.
"Ricky was a family man who adored his wife and children," Gaeta said, "and he was such a champion for the success of his boys and everything they did."
Unwin was employed by UMass Memorial Medical Center as a sterile processing technician. He leaves a wife, Jillian, and two sons, Caden and Jarrek.
The crash remains under investigation.
