The following are excerpts from the Newton police log for the period Sept. 6 to Sept. 11. The log is public record and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.


Sept. 10

Watermelon weapon: A police officer responded to a call at Burr School. The officer found a door had been broken by a watermelon and someone had spray-painted an unknown design.

Breaking and entering: A caller at Out Lady’s Church reported a past breaking and entering.


Sept. 6

Larceny: A caller on Sumner Street reported that that his/her bike was chained to the side of the porch with a combination lock but later the lock was cut and the bike was missing.

Wallet theft: A caller reported that she went to the West Newton Cinema earlier in the day and left her purse unattended in the theater. Later she realized her wallet was stolen. After this she was notified of unusual activity on her bank card.
